hot glass into a sandcasting mold

Creative Process

Working with glass is both exhilarating and challenging. I like to switch back and forth between glassblowing (image below) and sandcasting, as each process of creation inspires the other and helps my work to develop in new and interesting ways.

The image on the left shows Alex pouring 2300 degree Fahrenheit hot glass into a sandcasting mold with an iron ladel. The casting will be annealed for at least 60 hours in a kiln.
